GUIDED MAINE CANOE TRIPS

Poland Pond ~Allagash

MooseEarthways offers fully equipped trips, including meals, with Registered Maine Guides Ray & Nancy Reitze and Jennifer Ries. You'll canoe through the North Woods of Maine on such rivers as the St. John, the Allagash, or the West Branch of the Penobscot. You will have the chance to see moose, deer, eagles, osprey, loons, and much more. Our river trips are suitable for people of all ages and levels of skill.

You will have the opportunity to go swimming, hiking, fishing, and hear a few campfire stories. To insure that your wilderness experience is all that it can be, Earthways does not allow portable radios, dogs, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or cell phones. You'll enjoy a peaceful experience on the northern land and waters.

Wooden CanoesOur trips are run on rivers and ponds in the most remote areas of northern Maine. You will be canoeing through grand vistas of forested mountains and spectacular sunsets. See wildlife, big and small, with peacefulness all around. Enjoy the wilderness atmosphere, the camaraderie of the group, and the local knowledge of your guides.

We provide wood canvas canoes (handcrafted by your guides), paddles, vest type lifejackets, four-person tents (for two), and all meals. Wooden Canoe Trips in MaineRay and Jen cook wholesome meals from scratch of primarily organically grown ingredients. Some of our specialties include homemade doughnuts, pancakes, chowders, spaghetti, vegetarian shepherd's pie, and scratch biscuits. Personal needs (handicapped assistance, vegetarian diets, etc.) can be accommodated with notice. Safety rules will be reviewed for all.

The starting point for all canoe trips is Canaan, ME. You may be asked to take your vehicle to the put-in point (a five hour drive) if there are more than five guests in the group.

Maine LoonPart of the first and last day of each trip allows for travel to and from the Canaan starting point. You may make motel reservations at the Canaan Motel for the nights before and after your trip (your responsibility) or you may camp out on our property. Please arrive the evening prior to your trip. Departure time: 8:30 a.m. the next day.

On the river your guide(s) will teach or review paddling strokes, canoeing skills and the art of reading the water, useful to novice and experienced canoeist alike. Learning to read the water and understand the river takes time but your guide(s) are patient and will work with you throughout the trip. We enjoy teaching the art of poling and outdoor living to those who are interested. Call for dates 207.426.8138
